Mediator Release Testing (MRT)
Food sensitivities can the a root cause of many symptoms. If your healthcare provider has given you a clean bill of health, but you continue dealing with bloating, fatigue, headaches, skin issues, digestive discomfort, unanswered symptoms, or are just not feeling optimal, it may be time to consider that hidden food sensitivities are a root cause.

At Ascend MedSpa, we offer advanced food sensitivity testing in Boise to help uncover how your body responds to specific foods—so you can make informed choices that support better health, energy, and overall wellness.

Food sensitivity testing helps identify foods that may be triggering inflammation or uncomfortable symptoms in your body. Unlike food allergies, food sensitivities often cause delayed reactions, making them harder to identify without testing.

Our testing looks at how your immune system reacts to a wide range of common foods and food chemicals, helping determine how food choices may be affecting your well-being. This service is ideal for people who have tried and want answers beyond guesswork and general elimination diets.

How MRT Works
-
Blood collection — a routine blood draw is sent to the Oxford Labs. No fasting required.
-
Lab analysis — the test measures mediator (inflammatory) release when blood cells are exposed to 170 different foods and food chemicals.
-
Result interpretation — you'll meet with a Registered Dietitian to review results and receive your detailed report that ranks foods by reactivity.
-
Personalized plan — you and your Dietitian will create an elimination and reintroduction plan.
Food Sensitivity vs. Food Allergy
What’s the Difference?

Although the terms are often used interchangeably, food allergies and food sensitivities are not the same.

A food allergy is a well-understood IgE-mediated immune response to a specific food. Symptoms typically develop within minutes to a couple hours after eating and may include hives, swelling, vomiting, wheezing, or, in severe cases, life-threatening anaphylaxis.

A food sensitivity involves different types of immune or inflammatory responses and does not involve IgE antibodies. Because these reactions may not occur for days after eating a food—and may depend on the amount consumed—they can be much more difficult to identify. Symptoms can impact physical and mental well being in many ways, but common symptoms often include digestive discomfort, headaches/migraines, brain fog, fatigue, joint pain, skin issues, and chronic inflammatory symptoms.

At Ascend MedSpa, we use the Mediator Release Test (MRT) to help identify foods and food additives that may be triggering inflammatory responses. MRT provides valuable information when symptoms are difficult to connect to specific foods. By uncovering potential food sensitivities, we can develop a personalized nutrition plan designed to reduce inflammation and help you feel your best.
